MEN’S TENNIS OPENS SEASON WITH 9-0 LOSS AT SOUTHERN NEW HAMPSHIRE

Manchester, N.H. – The Le Moyne College men's tennis team opened the season with a 9-0 loss at Southern New Hampshire on Saturday afternoon in Northeast-10 Conference action.

At first singles, Mitch Dobek downed sophomore Shane Evans (Oswego, N.Y./Pulaski) by a score of 6-1, 6-0, while Mike Wallace posted a 6-1, 6-0 victory over junior Daryl Johnson (Minoa, N.Y./East Syracuse-Minoa) at second singles. Junior Alessandro Nieves (Baldwinsville, N.Y./C.W. Baker) fell in three sets, 2-6, 6-0, 6-10, to Jared Wright at third singles, while graduate student Michael Green (Baldwinsville, N.Y./C.W. Baker) was topped by Brad Malenich, 6-1, 6-1 at fourth singles. At the fifth spot, sophomore John Gerstner (East Rochester, N.Y./East Rochester) fell to Tim Hamilton, 8-0, in his collegiate debut, while Evan Eaton closed out the sweep for the Penmen with an 8-0 win over freshman Blaine Drake (Baldwinsville, N.Y./C.W. Baker) at sixth singles.

In doubles play, Nieves and Johnson fell to Dobek and Wallace, 8-1 at the #1 spot. Eaton and Wright teamed to knock off Evans and Green, 8-3, at second doubles, while Drake and senior Robert Brooks (Rochester, N.Y./Brighton) suffered an 8-0 loss to Hamilton and Malenich at the third spot.

Le Moyne (0-1, 0-1 NE-10) returns to action at St. Anselm on Sunday at 9:00 a.m.
