LE MOYNE SOFTBALL SELECTED FOR FIFTH STRAIGHT NCAA TOURNAMENT
SYRACUSE, N.Y. - The defending regional champion Le Moyne (29-19) has earned the No. 7 seed for its fifth consecutive NCAA tournament. Tournament play will take place May 11-14 at Bryant University. The eight teams selected will compete in a double elimination tournament with the winner advancing to the NCAA Division II Championship on May 18-22 in Salem, Va.
C.W. Post (42-10), winner of the NYCAC championship, goes into the tournament as the first seed. The Pionners will face the eight seed Southern New Hampshire (21-21) in the first round on Thursday, May 11. Le Moyne will face second seed Adelphi (31-16) in the first round. Le Moyne is 1-0 in their only meeting against the Panthers, which occurred in the 2003 NCAA Northeast Regional. The winner of that game will face the winner of No. 3 Bryant (29-16) vs. No. 6 Queens (27-20) on Friday, May 12. No. 4 Caldwell (36-15) will face No. 5 Mass-Lowell (31-20) to round out the first round of tournament play.
The Dolphins are led on offense by junior Kristen DesLauriers (Liverpool, N.Y./Liverpool) who is batting .333. She leads the team with 12 doubles and is second with four home runs. In the Northeast-10 Conference championship, she went 5-11 (.455) with four RBI, two home runs and one double.
Sophomore Sarah Reed (DeWitt, N.Y./Jamesville-DeWitt), a first team Northeast-10 All-Conference pick, leads the Dolphins on the mound with a 1.61 ERA. She has struck out 130 batters in 148 innings pitched. Reed is also batting .299 on the season and leads the team with five triples.
