FOUR DOLPHINS NAMED TO NORTHEAST-10 ALL-CONFERENCE TEAMS, LE MOYNE OPENS NCAA PLAY ON THURSDAY AGAINST ADELPHI
SYRACUSE, N.Y. - Four Le Moyne softball players have been named all-conference by the Northeast-10. Sophomore Sarah Reed (DeWitt, N.Y./Jamesville-DeWitt) has been named to the first team, Jennifer Winters (Vestal, N.Y./Vestal) and Emma Murphy (East Syracuse, N.Y./East Syracuse-Minoa) were second team selections and Lindsay Spaziani (Horseheads, N.Y./Horseheads) were named to the third team. Le Moyne (29-19) enters NCAA Northeast Regional action on Thursday at noon against second-seeded Adelphi at Bryant University.
Reed, selected as one of two first-team pitchers, leads Le Moyne with a 14-9 record and 1.61 earned run average this season. She has struck out 130 and walked just 30 in 148 innings of action. Reed, who has posted six shutouts this season, ranks second in the Northeast-10 for earned run average and wins and leads in batting average against (.207)
Winters, whose season was cut short due to injury, is a four-time honoree. The senior shortstop hit .409 with three home runs and 22 RBI in the season's first 21 games. Murphy is hitting .284 with a team-high seven home runs and 29 RBI. The sophomore first baseman is tied for the team lead with 27 runs scored and is slugging .507.
Spaziani, a third-team All-America selection last season, overcame an early season injury to hit .299 with three home runs and 16 RBI over the final 30 games.
Le Moyne (29-19) enters its fifth consecutive NCAA tournament appearance as the No. 7 seed. The Dolphins meet No. 2 seed Adelphi at noon on Thursday. If Le Moyne wins, it will advance to the second round of the double-elimination tournament at 3 p.m. on Friday. A loss would drop the Dolphins into an elimination round game on Friday at 10 a.m.
