LE MOYNE DROPS TWO GAMES IN SECOND DAY OF ECKERD COLLEGE
INVITATIONAL
CLEARWATER, FL - Senior Lindsay Spaziani (Horseheads,
N.Y./Horseheads) went 5-for-9 but the Le Moyne College
softball team dropped two games in the Eckerd College Triton
Invitational at the Fast Pitch Learning Academy. Le Moyne was
topped 9-3 in the morning's opening game by Nova Southeastern and
fell to Rollins in the second game 9-5. The Dolphins fell to 0-3 in
the early season, while Nova Southeastern improves to 7-8 with
Rollins moving to 6-5.
In the opener, Le Moyne jumped out to a 1-0 lead on the first
pitch of the first inning. Blasted her 11th career home run over
the left field fence. The Dolphins added two runs in the bottom of
the third inning to take a 3-0 lead. After Kortney Meadows
(Orchard Park, N.Y./ Orchard Park) walked, Spaziani
drilled a triple to the wall in right center. Sophomore
Lyndsey Balinskas (Edison, N.J./ Edison) followed
with a double to left, giving the Dolphins their third run.
Spaziani finished the game 3-for-4 with two runs driven in and two
runs scored. Balinskas was the only other Dolphin with a hit as she
finished 2-for-4.
Nova Southeastern responded with seven runs in the top of the
fourth inning to take the lead. The Sharks added two runs in the
top of the seventh to deliver the final score.
In the morning's second game, Jamie Rausch homered in between two
unearned runs as Rollins jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the first two
innings. The Dolphins narrowed the deficit with a run in the bottom
of the third. Kristen DesLauriers (Liverpool, N.Y./
Liverpool) was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded to
score Balinskas and give Le Moyne its first run.
The Tars responded with four unearned runs to take a 7-1 lead.
Stacy Sanders blasted a two-run home run over the wall in left
center to plate the seventh run of the game for Rollins. Le Moyne
was able to get three runs back in the bottom of the fourth inning
and close the gap to 7-4. Danielle VanGorder (Vestal, N.Y./
Vestal) started the rally with a one out single to the
right side of the infield. After a Meadows walk and Spaziani
single, Sarah Reed (DeWitt,
N.Y./Jamesville-DeWitt) drove in VanGorder by hitting the
ball to the shortstop. The Dolphins plated two more runs on a
single by Emma Murphy (East Syracuse, N.Y./ East
Syracuse-Minoa) to center field.
Rollins tacked on two insurance runs in the top of the seventh
inning to deliver their final run total of nine. Le Moyne recorded
one run on three hits in the bottom of the seventh before their
comeback was ended. VanGorder drove in DesLauriers with her first
career RBI.
Le Moyne returns to action Sunday morning at 9 a.m. against
Florida Tech and plays Rollins at 2 p.m.
