"KEN KING STEPS DOWN AS SOFTBALL COACH AFTER 10 SEASONS AT LE MOYNE"

SYRACUSE, N.Y. - Following 10 successful seasons, Ken King will step down as head softball coach at Le Moyne College. King will continue to direct the volleyball team and assume additional duties within the athletic department. Long-time assistant Ed Mahar will assume the role as interim head coach for the softball program for the 2007-08 season.

Ken King is one of the most decorated coaches in Le Moyne history. The leader of the 2003 and 2005 Northeast Region Coaching Staff of the Year and the 2001 Northeast-10 Conference Coach of the Year, King has coached the Dolphins to a period of unmatched success, guiding Le Moyne to six consecutive NCAA Tournament berths and four trips to the NCAA Championships. Le Moyne won 30 or more games for six consecutive seasons and finished atop the NE-10 regular season for four consecutive seasons. King, a member of the Le Moyne College Gold Wave Hall of Fame, compiled a record of 316-157-3 (.663) in 10 seasons.

"After nearly 30 years of coaching the entire academic year, the last 20 at Le Moyne, the time has come to spend more time with my family," said King. "I have truly loved everything about my position here, nothing more than having the opportunity to work with outstanding student-athletes."

"In knowing that the program is in the hands of Ed Mahar makes my decision the right thing to do," King added.  "We have worked side by side for more than 17 years and I know that it can only get better with Ed at the helm.  The team knows that with this decision, I will become their biggest fan."

"Ken King has been instrumental in building the type of program that every coach should attempt to emulate," said Director of Athletics Matt Bassett. "Under Coach King's leadership our women's softball program has not only achieved tremendous regional and national prominence, but more importantly he has created a winning tradition of excellence while providing a balanced student athlete experience. We are fortunate to be able to maintain continuity and that tradition of excellence established by Coach King by promoting Ed Mahar as the interim head coach for the remainder of the 07-08 season."
