A DAY OF MERCY AS LE MOYNE GOES 1-1 IN THEIR FINAL DAY
OF THE REBEL GAMES
March 8, 2008
Kissimmee, FL. -In Le Moyne’s first game of the day
St. Joseph (IN) would catch the Dolphins with their guard down and
defeat them 8-0. Beating the Dolphins by the mercy rule this loss
would get the Dolphins fired up and ready to play hard in their
second game of the day against Northern Kentucky University.
Putting this previous loss behind them the Dolphins would take
their second game by the mercy rule 9-0.
The first game of the day against St. Josephs would be a
disappointment as they would be shut out 8-0. The Dolphins defense
played poorly committing five errors. St. Josephs bat would come
out swinging in the first inning scoring five runs four of which
were unearned. This lead would intimidate the Dolphins as they
would remain scoreless through out the entire game. St. Josephs
would close the door on the Dolphins as they scored a final three
runs only earning one ending the game by the mercy rule with a
score of 8-0.
Making her first collegiate début Katelyn Fowler would come
in the fourth inning for Caylinn Christophersen and throw a strike
for her first pitch. She would end the inning without letting St.
Joseph’s plate single run and only facing three batters.
In the second game of the day Le Moyne would come with fire
shutting out Northern Kentucky leaving them scoreless. Sarah Reeds
pitching and the Dolphins defense would put out NKU’s batters
in the first inning with three quick outs. Emma Murphy would get
the game going as her single up the middle would put Le Moyne on
the board. The Dolphins defense would stay strong as they retired
NKU in the second only seeing four batters. Le Moyne would extend
their lead by eight bringing in seven more runs in the second.
Kelly Schweikert walked to force in a run bringing the Dolphins to
2-0. With bases loaded Sarah Reeds Double to left center would
plate three more for the Dolphins (5-0). Murphy would come out to
hit her first homerun of the season towering over the leftfield
fence to bring in three more runs for the Dolphins. Le Moyne would
score once more on a double to centerfield by Bailey Phillips
extending their lead and locking their victory to 9-0. Fowler would
step in to finish the game for Reed in the fifth to secure the
lead. The game would end in the top of the fifth by the mercy rule
giving the Dolphins the win.
Reed would take her second win of the season with two strike outs
and only allowing three hits. Reed would also contribute three
RBI’s and two hits. Murphy would make her mark with eight out
of fifteen put-outs, four RBI’s, and two hits. Kortney
Meadows follow by also contributing two hits.
The Dolphins come out of the Rebel Games with a 6-6 overall record.
They return to action when they make a Long Island trip to play
