DOLPHINS GRIND OUT TWO VICTORIES BEHIND STRONG PITCHING BY VANACORE & FOWLER
KISSIMMEE, FL - Winners of five of their first six games to open the season, the Le Moyne College softball team grinded out two victories on Tuesday to improve their record to 5-1 on the young season. The Dolphins topped Palm Beach Atlantic 1-0 and defeated Fayettevile State 8-1.
Sophomore Jenna Vanacore (Hicksville, NY / Holy Trinity) pitched a complete game four-hitter to lead the Dolphins past Palm Beach Atlantic. The right-hander struck out 11 on the afternoon to improve her record to 3-0 on the season. Senior Caitlin O'Neill (Pittsford, NY / Out Lady of Mercy) recorded the day's only run as she snapped Ashley Jones' bid for a perfect game with a home run to centerfield to begin the fifth inning. Freshman Leah Ford (Pulaski, NY / Pulaski) recorded the Dolphins only other hit with a sixth inning single.
Katelyn Fowler (Sandy Creek, NY / Sandy Creek) picked up the complete game victory in game two as Le Moyne topped Fayetteville State 8-1. Junior Kelly Schweikert (Rochester, NY / Spencerport) led the charge on offence by executing two sacrifice squeeze plays to plate runs. Jennifer Farrelly (Latham, NY / Shaker) chipped in with a single and double on the afternoon.
Le Moyne returns to action on Wednesday as they take on Dowling College at 11:00 AM and C.W. Post at 3:00 PM.
