SBALL: DOLPHINS SPLIT IN REBEL GAMES; MOVE TO 8-2 ON THE YEAR.

KISSIMMEE, FL – The Le Moyne College softball team split a double header on Friday at the Rebel Games. The Dolphins fell to Southern Indiana 6-2 in the morning, but rallied to defeat Minnesota State University Mankato 1-0 on a seventh inning RBI single by Caitlin O’Neill (Pittsford, NY / Our Lady of Mercy). Le Moyne currently stands at 8-2 on the season.

In the first game of the day, Southern Indiana struck early to build a 4-1 advantage after two innings. Amanda Brendel’s first inning single plated the game’s first run for the Eagles. Le Moyne responded in the top half of the second as senior Jennifer Farrelly (Latham, NY / Shaker) pushed across the Dolphins’ first run on an RBI double down the left field line. Le Moyne’s bid for a second run was cut down at the plate as Farrelly was thrown out on a relay from the centerfielder.

Southern Indiana used three hits and two Dolphin errors in the bottom half the of the second to get to freshman Brenna Klien (Huntington Beach, CA / Ocean View) in her first start for the Dolphins. Klein allowed five hits, four runs (one earned) over 1.2 innings of work.

In Le Moyne’s last licks, the Dolphins scratched for one run on an RBI single by Danielle VanGorder (Vestal, NY / Vestal) to cut the deficit to 6-2. Southern Indiana hurler Hadley Clark would record the final out en route to a complete game victory. Clark scattered eight hits on the day against two runs.

Le Moyne was led on offense by Farrelly and freshman Leah Ford (Pulaski, NY / Pulaski) with two hits each.

In the second game of the day, sophomore Jenna Vanacore (Hicksville, NY / Holy Trinity) recorded a complete game shutout for her fourth win of the season. She allowed just five hits and struck out five in pushing her career record to 18-1.

Le Moyne scored the game winner in the seventh inning as Bailey Phillips (Rochester, NY / Greece-Arcadia) led off with a double. Freshman Barbara Shea (Clifton Park, N.Y. /Shenendehowa) moved Phillips over on a sacrifice bunt and O’Neill pushed across the winning run on a single up the middle.

The Dolphins wrap up their week at the Rebel Games with two games Saturday. Le Moyne takes on Caldwell at 9:00 AM followed by a match up with Adelphi at 11:00 AM.
