SBALL: #21 DOLPHINS SPLIT TWO GAMES WITH C.W.
POST
BROOKVILLE, NY – The Le Moyne College softball team split a
series for the second straight day as they topped C.W. Post 8-0 in
game one and fell 7-2 in game two. Ranked #21 in the latest
national poll, the Dolphins move to 12-4 on the season while the
Pioneers post a .500 record at 7-7.
In game one, the Dolphins jumped on the scoreboard early with three
runs in the first inning and two more in the second. The three-run
first inning was highlighted by RBI singles from Danielle
VanGorder (Vestal, NY / Vestal) and Caitlin O’Neill
(Pittsford, NY / Our Lady of Mercy). Junior Kelly Schweikert
(Rochester, NY / Spencerport) connected on a 3-2 pitch for her
third home run of the season to plate two runs in the second. With
an early 5-0 lead, Jennifer Farrelly (Latham, NY / Shaker) made
easy work of the Pioneer lineup in going the distance for the
Dolphins. In earning her fourth victory of the season, Farrelly
allowed only three hits and struck out six. Le Moyne’s three
runs in the top half of the inning forced a mercy-rule victory as
freshman Leah Ford (Pulaski, NY / Pulaski) drove in the last two
runs on a single to right field.
The Pioneers posted a run early in game two as Kerry Fisher
connected for a solo home run in the bottom of the first inning. In
the third inning, Bailey Phillips (Rochester, NY / Greece-Arcadia)
doubled to right center and scored to tie the game at 1-1 as
VanGorder reached on an error by the right fielder. Caitlin
O’Neill’s single the following inning scored Schweikert
to give the Dolphins a 2-1 advantage going into the fifth inning.
C.W. Post exploded for six runs on nine hits in the bottom of the
fifth to take a 7-2 advantage. The Pioneer rally was keyed by four
run scoring base hits by Christie Softy, Shannon Kulnis, Megan
Correia, and Kristin Morcone.
Sarah Kiser earned the complete game win going seven innings,
scattering seven hits and striking out two. Jenna Vanacore
(Hicksville, NY / Holy Trinity) took the loss for the Dolphins for
only the second time in her career. She allowed seven hits and four
runs over 4.1 innings. Her career record now stands at 21-2.
Le Moyne wraps up their weekend road trip with two games on Monday,
March 23rd against Molloy beginning at 2:00 p.m.
