SB: DOLPHINS SWEEP SAINT ROSE, 6-0, 7-1, IN NE-10 ROAD
ACTION
Rotterdam, N.Y. - Senior pitcher Jennifer Farrelly
(Latham, N.Y./Shaker) threw a one-hitter in game one and
homered in game two to lead Le Moyne College to a doubleheader
sweep of Saint Rose on Thursday night at Esposito Field. The
Dolphins shut out the Golden Knights, 6-0, in game and won game
two, 7-1.
The Dolphins opened the scoring in game one on a solo home run by
junior second baseman Kelly Schweikert (Rochester,
N.Y./Spencerport) in the first inning. The Dolphins added
to their lead with a pair of runs in the third inning. Freshman
first baseman Leah Ford (Pulaski, N.Y./Pulaski)
led off the frame with her second career home run. Following a pair
of outs, Schweikert walked and then stole second base. Farrelly
followed with a double to drive in Schweikert.
Le Moyne doubled its lead with two runs in the sixth and a single
run in the seventh. Farrelly opened the sixth with a double to left
center and moved to third on a sacrifice bunt. Following a
groundout and a walk to freshman designated player Kelcie
Cashel (Lacona, N.Y./Sandy Creek), freshman pinch-hitter
Amanda Mosich (Penn Yan, N.Y./Penn Yan Academy)
doubled to left center to knock in Farrelly and Cashel. In the
seventh, junior center fielder Danielle VanGorder (Vestal,
N.Y./Vestal) singled and freshman shortstop
Barbara Shea (Clifton Park, N.Y./Shenendehowa)
doubled to left center to open the inning. Schweikert followed with
a sac fly to drive in VanGorder to cap the game's scoring.
Farrelly, the Northeast-10 and ECAC player and pitcher of the
year, struck out three batters, while allowing just one hit and two
walks in her fifth shutout and 10th complete game of the
season.
In the nightcap, the Dolphins got on the scoreboard with two runs
on a hit and an error in the first inning. VanGorder led off the
game with a single to right field and moved to second as Shea
reached on an error. After a sac bunt and Farrelly was hit by a
pitch to load the bases, senior third baseman Caitlin
O'Neill (Pittsford, N.Y./Our Lady of Mercy) was walked to
force in VanGorder. Sophomore catcher Kimberlee Baker
(Murrieta, Calif./Murrieta Valley) recorded a sac fly to
drive in Shea. The Golden Knights got one run back in the bottom
half of the frame on two hits. Megan Rios tripled and scored three
batters later on a single by Amanda Morano.
The Dolphins regained their two-run advantage in the third on a
home run by O'Neill. Le Moyne pushed out to a 7-1 lead with a run
in the fifth, two in the sixth and one in the seventh. Farrelly
double to left with two outs in the fifth. O'Neill reached on an
error and Farrelly came around to score on a second error.
Sophomore right fielder Amanda Daum (Auburn,
N.Y./Auburn) and Ford singled each singled with one out in
the sixth. Following a fielder's choice by VanGorder, Shea singled
to drive in Daum and VanGorder. Farrelly capped the scoring in the
seventh with her fourth home run in the last four games.
Sophomore righty Jenna Vanacore (Hicksville, N.Y./Holy
Trinity) struck out eight batters in five innings pitched
to register her 10th victory of the season. Classmate
Katelyn Fowler (Sandy Creek, N.Y./Sandy Creek)
tossed the final two innings to preserve the victory.
Le Moyne (21-7, 9-1), which has won five consecutive games,
