SBALL: DOLPHINS RETURN TO NATIONAL RANKINGS AT #23
Starkville, Miss. – The Le Moyne College softball team
returned to the NFCA poll this week ranked #23rd in the nation. The
Dolphins went 6-2 as they played eight games in five days.
In the first games of the week, Le Moyne dropped both games of a
doubleheader to Southern Connecticut State by scores of 1-0 and
3-1. The Dolphins were limited to only nine hits over the two games
and were led by junior second baseman Kelly Schweikert
(Rochester, N.Y./Spencerport), who finished the day
going 2-for-7 with a home run and the day’s only RBI.
Le Moyne, which is also ranked first in the latest NCAA East
Region rankings, went on the road for a doubleheader at American
International, in which the Dolphins took both games by scores of
7-3 and 5-1. Senior Jennifer Farrelly (Latham,
N.Y./Shaker) led the Dolphins on the day, both offensively
and in the circle. Farrelly went 4-for-7 with two homers and three
RBI, while going seven innings in game one, yielding three runs and
strik
ing out five.
After a day off, the Dolphins returned home for doubleheaders
against Franklin Pierce and UMass-Lowell. Against Franklin Pierce,
the Dolphins won both games, 8-1 and 1-0. Many players contributed
in the game including junior outfielder Danielle VanGorder
(Vestal, N.Y./Vestal), who went 4-for-7 with three
RBI, Schweikert, who went 3-for-7 with a run scored and an RBI and
sophomore catcher Kim Baker (Murrieta, Calif./Murrieta
Valley), who went 3-for-3 with three runs scored.
In the games against UMass-Lowell, the Dolphins took both games,
winning 3-0 and 12-4. Freshman first baseman Leah Ford
(Pulaski, N.Y./Pulaski) hit a three-run homer in the first
game for the game's only score and Farrelly pitched the
complete-game shutout with eight strikeouts. Junior outfielder
Bailey Phillips (Rochester, N.Y./Greece-Arcadia)
and freshman shortstop Barb Shea (Clifton Park,
N.Y./Shenendehowa) both went 3-for-6 on the day. Phillips
scored once and batted one run in, while Shea tallied three runs
and knocked two batters in.
The Dolphins return to action on Saturday for a doubleheader at
Southern New Hampshire at 6:00 p.m. Le Moyne closes out the regular
season by hosting Pace on Monday, April 27. The start time for the
doubleheader, which is a make-up from April 9, is still to be
determined.
