DOLPHINS MOVE PAST ST. ANSELM IN THREE SETS
SYRACUSE, N.Y. - Le Moyne College's volleyball team earned their
ninth win at home with a three-set sweep against St. Anselm in
Northeast-10 Conference action at Ted Grant Court. The Dolphins
(11-17, 5-7 NE-10) honored former setter Julie McLaud with the Kyle
Coggins Memorial Award in a pregame ceremony. The Hawks (3-20, 2-10
NE-10) saw senior Alana McNeil shatter the program's all-time kill
record in the loss.
Le Moyne breezed 30-15, 30-27, 30-12 in the win. The Dolphins raced
to early 7-2 advantage in the match's first set and opened action
up with a 16-5 lead. Second set play saw McNeil collect the 1,088th
kill of her career. The Hawks erased an early eight-point deficit
to tie the set at 24 but Le Moyne used a four-point surge to push
their lead to 28-24. The Dolphins dominated in the match's final
set, racing out to a 17-3 advantage and leading by as many as
20.
Elizabeth Cheek paced the Dolphins with 15 kills and 7 digs. Krista
Prentice added 11 kills and three blocks to the Le Moyne cause
while Amanda Kershner contributed five kills and six blocks. Kaylin
Brainerd accumulated 44 assists and Caitlin Richardson finished
with a team-best four aces. For the Hawks, McNeill collected 10
kills.
Head coach Ken King bestowed 2007 graduate Julie McLaud with the
Kyle Coggins Memorial Award in a pregame ceremony. McLaud's
four-year career between 2003 and 2006 rewrote the Le Moyne College
volleyball record books. Her 4,360 assists are a school record. In
387 career games, she averaged 11.27 assists per contest. The
former Dolphin's 167 service aces and 925 digs rank fifth and
seventh, respectively, in program history.
Now 9-3 at Ted Grant court for the season, Le Moyne rounds out the
home portion of its schedule as the Dolphins play host to Southern
New Hampshire at noon Sunday.
