DOLPHINS SWEPT BY NEW HAVEN IN NE-10 VOLLEYBALL OPENER

West Haven, Conn. - Brittani Cotton landed nine kills to lead New Haven to a 3-0 sweep of the Le Moyne College volleyball team in Northeast-10 Conference action on Friday, Sept. 19 at Charger Gymnasium.

The Chargers opened the match with a 25-14 victory in the first set. Cotton and twin sister Charisse each recorded three kills in the set, while setter Yael Rosner dished out eight assists.

In the second set, New Haven cruised to a 25-11 victory. Katrina Ali and Sara Malmlov registered five and four points on serve, respectively, as the Chargers jumped out to a 10-1 lead. After the Dolphins cut the score to 12-7, New Haven scored seven points behind the serve of Rhi-Ann Niles. Ali closed out the set on consecutive attack errors on the Dolphins.

Rosner led the Chargers to a 25-13 victory in the third set by dishing out 12 assists. Following back-and-forth play led New Haven to a 17-11 lead, Brittani Cotton recorded three points and Niles tallied four points on serve to close out the match.

Senior Kristin Cobb (Cincinnatus, N.Y./Cincinnatus) led Le Moyne with five kills, while classmate Jodi Smith (Angola, N.Y./Eden) landed four. Junior setter Kaylin Brainerd (Liverpool, N.Y./Liverpool) dished out 11 assists and libero Lindsey Gleason (Hamburg, N.Y./Frontier) registered a team-high 10 digs.

Le Moyne (5-5, NE-10 0-1) returns to NE-10 action on Saturday, Sept. 20 in Easton, Mass. against Stonehill at 12:30 p.m. The Dolphins defeated the Skyhawks, 3-0, on Sunday as part of the Le Moyne Invitational.
