DOLPHINS RALLY FOR FIVE-SET VICTORY OVER ASSUMPTION

Worcester, Mass. - Senior Caitlin Richardson (Victor, N.Y./Victor) landed 18 kills to lead the Le Moyne College volleyball team to a come-from-behind 3-2 victory over Assumption on Sunday, Sept. 21 at Laska Gym. After falling behind two sets to zero, the Dolphins rallied to take the final three sets of the match.

In the opening set, Assumption tallied the final four points of the set for a 26-24 victory. After back-and-forth play throughout the set, junior Kaylin Brainerd (Liverpool, N.Y./Liverpool) registered six points on serve to turn a 22-18 deficit into a 24-22 lead for the Dolphins. Following an attack error on Le Moyne, Assumption scored three points on consecutive attack errors for the win.

In the second set, Assumption followed a 12-12 tie with a 13-7 run for a 25-19 win. Sarah Sullivan registered three kills and Marilisa Strand dished out four assists in the set to lead the Greyhounds.

Le Moyne rallied from a 22-18 deficit to take a 26-24 victory in the third set. Following an attack error on the Greyhounds, junior Lindsey Gleason (Hamburg, N.Y./Frontier) served for three points to knot the score at 22 apiece. After alternating attack errors, senior Jodi Smith (Angola, N.Y./Eden) landed a kill to start a streak of four straight Le Moyne points. Sophomore Krista Prentice (Amherst, N.Y./Sweet Home) served for the closing points.

In the fourth set, the Dolphins registered a 16-6 run to turn a 9-8 lead into a 25-14 victory to knot the match at two. Richardson led the Dolphins' offense with five kills and Brainerd dished out 12 assists.

In the decisive fifth set, the Dolphins rolled to a 15-5 victory to win the match. Junior Elizabeth Cheek (Huntington Beach, Calif./Rosary) and sophomore Amanda Kershner (Baldwinsville, N.Y./C.W. Baker) each registered two kills in the set.

Richardson contributed four blocks and eight digs to her season-high 18 kills. Cheek registered a double-double of 11 kills and 11 digs, while Brainerd posted 51 assists and a team-high 17 digs. Gleason posted 15 digs, Smith added 12 digs and seven kills, while Prentice registered 11 digs and seven kills.

Le Moyne (6-6, NE-10 1-2) returns to action on Saturday, Sept. 27 at home against East Stroudsburg and conference-foe St. Michael's.
