CHEEK LEADS DOLPHINS TO SWEEP OF SOUTHERN NEW HAMPSHIRE
Manchester, N.H. - Junior Elizabeth Cheek (Huntington Beach, Calif./Rosary) registered 15 kills to lead the Le Moyne College volleyball team to a 3-0 sweep of Southern New Hampshire on Saturday, Oct. 4 at the SNHU Fieldhouse.
After falling behind 5-3 in the opening set, the Dolphins went on an 8-2 run behind the serve of Cheek and junior libero Lindsey Gleason (Hamburg, N.Y./Frontier). Following a kill by senior Jodi Smith (Angola, N.Y./Eden) pulled the Dolphins within 22-19, Gleason closed out the set by serving for six consecutive points for the 25-22 victory.
In the second set, sophomore Krista Prentice (Amherst, N.Y./Sweet Home) turned a 13-8 deficit into a 13-13 tie with five points, including a pair of service aces. Cheek tallied the final two points of the 25-20 victory while serving, including an ace close out the set.
Senior Caitlin Richardson (Victor, N.Y./Victor) and junior setter Kaylin Brainerd (Liverpool, N.Y./Liverpool) turned a 9-8 lead into an 18-10 advantage as Richardson served for three points and Brainerd registered five. Cheek capped the match with a kill off an assist from Brainerd for the 25-21 victory.
Cheek added four digs and two service aces to her team-high 15 kills. Brainerd dished out 30 assists in the match, reaching the total for the seventh time this season, while also recording seven digs. Richardson landed nine kills and had two service aces, while Smith posted seven kills and six digs.
Le Moyne (10-6, NE-10 3-2) returns to action on Sunday, Oct. 5 at St. Anselm at 11:00 a.m.
