VBALL: AMERICAN INTERNATIONAL TOPS LE MOYNE 3-1 IN NE-10 ACTION

Springfield, Mass. - Kambryn Williams registered 12 kills and 15 digs to lead American International to a 3-1 victory over the Le Moyne College volleyball team in Northeast-10 Conference action on Thursday night at Butova Gymnasium.

The Yellow Jackets opened the match with a 25-21 victory in the first set. The Dolphins jumped out to a 9-5 lead following a setting error on AIC. The Yellow Jackets responded with an 11-5 run to take a two point advantage. After back-and-forth play enabled the Dolphins to take a 20-18 lead, AIC closed the set with 7-1 run for the victory.

Le Moyne answered in the second set with a 25-22 victory to knot the match at one game apiece. The Dolphins jumped out to an 11-4 lead behind the serves of Jodi Smith (Angola, N.Y./Eden) and Elizabeth Cheek (Huntington Beach, Calif./Rosary). After AIC pulled within 20-19, Le Moyne closed out the set with a 5-3 spurt capped by a kill by senior Caitlin Richardson (Victor, N.Y./Victor) off an assist from junior setter Kaylin Brainerd (Liverpool, N.Y./Liverpool).

The Yellow Jackets regained the lead in the match with a 25-21 victory in the third set. Following back-and-forth throughout a majority of the match, Le Moyne took a 17-15 lead on a kill by Smith. Ellisha Terry served for four consecutive points to give the Yellow Jackets a 20-17 advantage before Jocelyn Lavandier closed the set with a service ace.

In the fourth set, neither team was able to take more than a three point lead. The Dolphins took a 13-10 edge, before AIC responded to take a 19-16 lead. Le Moyne battled back to extend the match by knotting the score at 24 on a kill by Richardson. Following an AIC timeout, consecutive kills by Terry and Kaitlen Laine gave the Yellow Jackets the 26-24 victory.

Cheek led the Dolphins in the match with a double-double of 15 kills and 15 digs. Richardson, ranked seventh in the conference in hitting percentage, contributed 11 kills without committing an attack error for a team-high .579 hitting percentage. Brainerd dished out 38 assists, while Smith registered eight kills and 11 digs. Junior libero Lindsey Gleason (Hamburg, N.Y./Frontier) recorded 13 digs in the match.

Following nine days off, Le Moyne (11-7, NE-10 4-3) returns to action on Saturday, Oct. 18 against UMass Lowell at 12:00 p.m.
