VB: LE MOYNE SWEPT BY MERRIMACK, 3-0, IN NORTHEAST-10
ACTION
North Andover, Mass. - Molly Cindric registered 18 kills and 15
digs to lead Merrimack College to a 3-0 win over the Le Moyne
College volleyball team on Saturday evening in Northeast-10
Conference action at Volpe Gym.
The Warriors opened the match by jumping out to a 16-5 lead.
Cindric turned a three point lead into the 16-5 advantage with
eight straight points off serve. After the Dolphins pulled within
17-10 on a kill by freshman Morgan McDermott (Camillus,
N.Y./West Genesee), Merrimack rattled off five straight
points and eight of the game's final 11 points for a 25-13 win.
In the second game, the Dolphins took an early 9-6 lead on a kill
by sophomore Kelli Willets (Apalachin,
N.Y./Vestal). The Warriors bounced back with six straight
points to take a three point lead of their own. After
back-and-forth play resulted in a 19-18 lead for the Dolphins,
Cindric landed a kill off a pass from Elyse Lorenz to tie the score
and give her team the serve. Lorenz proceeded to record the final
six points of the game for a 25-19 victory.
Merrimack captured the match with a 25-21 win in the third game.
Lorenz turned a 7-3 lead into an 11 point advantage with seven
consecutive points off serve. The Dolphins rallied behind the
serves of classmates Elizabeth Cheek (Huntington Beach,
Calif./Rosary) and Lindsey Gleason (Hamburg,
N.Y./Frontier) to get within 16-12. The two teams traded
points, with Le Moyne getting as close as 20-18, before Cindric
closed out the match with her 18th kill on Lorenz's 40th
assist.
McDermott led the Dolphins with 10 kills, while hitting at a .444
percentage, and added a match-high four blocks. Senior setter
Kaylin Brainerd (Liverpool, N.Y./Liverpool) posted
20 assists and eight digs in the setback, with Cheek and Gleason
registering 13 and 10 digs, respectively.
Le Moyne (10-3, NE-10 2-1) returns to action on Sunday afternoon at
UMass Lowell at 1:00 p.m.
