VB: DOLPHINS SWEPT BY CONFERENCE-LEADING NEW HAVEN, 3-0


West Haven, Conn. - Outside hitter Sara Malmlov landed 14 kills as New Haven defeated the Le Moyne College volleyball team, 3-0, in Northeast-10 Conference action on Saturday evening at Charger Gymnasium.

In the opening game, the Chargers jumped out to a 5-1 lead, but the Dolphins bounced back to even the score at nine apiece. New Haven tallied the next three points before Le Moyne responded with five straight points of its own to take a 14-12 lead. The Chargers used runs of 4-0, 3-0 and 5-0 to register a 25-17 victory.

After a service ace by senior outside hitter Elizabeth Cheek (Huntington Beach, Calif./Rosary) pulled the Dolphins within 7-6 in the second game, the Chargers used a 7-3 run to take control of the game. After the two teams traded points leading to a 19-15 lead for the Chargers, New Haven tallied three straight points en route to a 25-18 win, capped by a Malmlov service ace.

New Haven captured the match with a 25-19 win in the third game. After falling behind 5-3 early in the game, the Chargers tallied four straight points behind the serve of Heather Ladao. Following a service error by the Dolphins, New Haven turned an 11-9 edge into a 17-9 lead with six straight points on the serve of Tymika Duncan, including a pair of service aces. The Dolphins answered back with an 8-4 run to pull within four points, but New Haven closed out the match with four of the game's next six points.

Cheek led the Dolphins in the match with nine kills, while also recording nine digs. Junior Krista Prentice (Amherst, N.Y./Sweet Home) landed six kills and dished out a pair of assists. Senior setter Kaylin Brainerd (Liverpool, N.Y./Liverpool) handed out 16 assists, while classmate Lindsey Gleason (Hamburg, N.Y./Frontier) registered 10 digs.

Le Moyne (11-5, NE-10 3-3) returns to the court on Sunday at Pace at 1:00 p.m.
