VBALL: CHEEK MOVES INTO THIRD ALL-TIME IN KILLS AS
‘PHINS SWEEP ASSUMPTION 3-0.
SYRACUSE, NY – Senior outside hitter Elizabeth Cheek
(Huntington Beach, CA / Rosary) moved into third place
all-time at Le Moyne in career kills in a 3-0 sweep of Assumption
on Saturday at Ted Grant Court. Cheek connected on 10 kills to lead
the Dolphins and increased her career total to 1,207. With the win,
Le Moyne moves to 14-6 on the year, 6-4 in the NE-10. Assumption
falls to 1-17, 0-11 in conference action.
The Dolphins jumped out to a quick start in game one winning the
first nine points and the first 15-of-16 to take a commanding 15-1
lead. Cheek paced the ‘Phins in the game with five kills in
taking game one 25-10.
The Greyhounds and Dolphins traded points most of the way through
game two. With the score tied at 20-20, Le Moyne used kills from
Kelli Willets (Apalachin, NY / Vestal) and
freshman Morgan McDermott (Camillus, NY / West
Genesee) and took advantage of three Assumption hitting
errors to capture game two 25-23.
Le Moyne took full control midway through game three to put the
game away. Winning 7-4, the Dolphins went on a 12-3 run behind the
service of seniors Cheek, Lindsey Gleason (Hamburg, NY /
Frontier) and Kaylin Brainerd (Liverpool, NY /
Liverpool) to cruise to a 25-8 win and a three game sweep
of Assumption.
Brainerd dished out 20 assists on the day for Le Moyne, while
Krista Prentice (Amherst, NY / Sweet Home) and
McDermott chipped in with five and six kills respectively. Aimee
Drainville led the way for Assumption with nine kills.
