WOMEN'S BASKETBALL: BENTLEY HOLDS OFF LE MOYNE 51-48

SYRACUSE, N.Y. - Shannon Kirwan scored 14 points to help Bentley hold off Le Moyne 51-48 in a Northeast-10 Conference women's basketball game at Grant Court. Vanessa Holden (Suffern, N.Y./Immaculate Heart) scored a career-high 21 points for Le Moyne (6-10, 2-9 Northeast-10). The Falcons (12-4, 8-4 Northeast-10) have won seven of their last eight games.

Holden scored 13 of her game-high point total in the second half as Le Moyne rallied back from an 11-point deficit. Courtney Coryea (Mooers Forks, N.Y./Northeastern Clinton) capped a 9-0 Le Moyne run with a layup off a feed from Holden that pulled the Dolphins to within two a 41-39 with 8:10 remaining. Bentley pushed its lead back to five, but the Dolphins remained within striking distance the rest of the way and had a shot to tie at the buzzer.

In the final minute, Coryea converted an offensive putback to cut the deficit to 50-48 with 55 seconds remaining. After the two team's traded possessions, Bentley's Kristy McLean converted the first of two free throws to extend the Falcons' lead to 51-48 with five seconds left. The Dolphins had a 3-point shot fall off the mark at the buzzer.

Holden's 21-point effort was Le Moyne's only double-figure effort. The Dolphins shot 32.7% (17-for-52) from the field and went 11-for-14 (78.6%) from the free throw line. Coryea grabbed 14 rebounds for Le Moyne. The Dolphins committed just 13 turnovers. Bentley outrebounded its hosts 35-32.

Kirwan's 14 points paced three Bentley players in double figures. Vanessa Lux made six-of-nine from the field for 13 points, while Colette Josey scored 12 points off the bench. The Falcons shot 39.5% (17-for-43) from the field.
