Le Moyne Athletics : Courtney Coryea posts double-double as Le Moyne stifles UMass Lowell 45-36

LE MOYNE OVERCOMES SLUGGISH FIRST HALF TO DOWN UMASS LOWELL WOMEN'S BASKETBALL 45-36

SYRACUSE, N.Y. - Freshman Courtney Coryea (Mooers Forks, N.Y./Northeastern Clinton) scored 12 points and grabbed 10 rebounds to lift Le Moyne past UMass Lowell 45-36 in a Northeast-10 Conference women's basketball game at Grant Court. The 36 points allowed by the Dolphins (9-15, 5-14 Northeast-10) were the lowest opponent output of the season and least allowed since Dec. 30, 2005. Revital Carmon scored 12 points and pulled down 10 rebounds for UMass Lowell (9-15, 5-15 Northeast-10).

Sophomore Katie Dunn (Whippany, N.J./Morris Catholic) scored eight of her 11 points after intermission to join Coryea in double figures for Le Moyne. Senior Lindsay Ellis (Fairport, N.Y./Fairport), playing in her final home game, grabbed 10 rebounds to share game-high honors. The Dolphins outrebounded their guests 40-36 and outshot the River Hawks 31.3% to 23.1%.

Le Moyne made just six-of-26 (23.1%) and UMass Lowell converted five-of-24 (20.8%) from the field in the opening half as the two teams played to a 14-14 tie at the intermission. Le Moyne scored the first six points of the second half to open up a lead the Dolphins would not relinquish. The River Hawks pulled within three points with 11:42 remaining, but Le Moyne scored six straight to put the game out of reach.

With the victory, Le Moyne moves into a tie with UMass Lowell for 11th place in the 15-team Northeast-10 Conference. The top 12 teams qualify for the league tournament. The Dolphins travel to 2006 NCAA Division II runner-up American International on Monday for a 5:30 p.m. game. Le Moyne's final three games will be on the road.
