NO. 11 SOUTHERN CONNECTICUT'S HOT SHOOTING DEALS DOLPHINS FIRST SETBACK OF SEASON, 84-52
SYRACUSE, N.Y. - The Le Moyne College women's basketball team dropped its first game of the 2007-08 season to Southern Connecticut State, 84-52, at Ted Grant Court. The Owls (3-1, 2-1 NE-10), last season's Division II National Champions, were impeccable outside of the arc, shooting 55% (11-for-20) from three-point range. The Dolphins (3-1, 2-1 NE-10) were paced in the scoring column by Kim Wagoner's 12 points.
Le Moyne was able to keep pace with Southern Connecticut for the game's first nine minutes but the Owls used a 13-2 run to build an 11-point cushion. Jacquelin Precious scored all six of her points in the first half to lead the Dolphins into the halftime intermission while Southern Connecticut's Kate Lynch was perfect from three-point range to total 13 points in the game's first 20 minutes. Brandy Wangelin totaled five points and grabbed four rebounds in just 10 minutes of first-half action.
The Dolphins' shooting percentage improved in the second half but Southern Connecticut buried 7-of-10 three-pointers after the intermission and shot 60% (15-for-25) from the field to put the game out of reach. Courtney Coryea scored all nine of her points in the second half and Kim Wagoner drained two three-pointers to highlight Le Moyne's offensive output. Vanessa Holden aided the Dolphins' cause with eight points and seven boards.
Le Moyne travels to Northeast-10 foe St. Anselm for a 1:30 p.m. Saturday meeting. The Dolphins return to Ted Grant Court on Dec. 8 to host St. Michael's at 1 p.m.
