ASSUMPTION USES LATE RUN TO DROP LE MOYNE, 64-48

SYRACUSE, N.Y. – The Le Moyne College women’s basketball team dropped its first Northeast-10 Conference game of 2008, falling 64-48 to Assumption College at Ted Grant Court. Courtney Coryea scored 15 points and pulled down five rebounds to lead the Dolphins (6-6, 3-5 NE-10) while Charde Floyd recorded a double-double with 13 points and 15 rebounds for the Greyhounds (12-3, 6-2 NE-10). Assumption utilized a 19-7 run in the game’s final eight minutes to pull away from Le Moyne.

The Dolphins erased an early nine-point deficit and clung to a three-point lead with just over five minutes remaining in the first half. Le Moyne knocked down four three-pointers in the first half and shot 57.1% (4-for-7) from long range. The Le Moyne defense forced 12 turnovers before the intermission and 19 for the game. Coryea finished stellar on the defensive end, collecting five steals. Kathleen Gladstone finished just shy of a double-double with 13 points and nine rebounds in the losing effort. Jacquelin Precious chipped in with 10 points and three assists while Vanessa Holden contributed seven points and six boards to the Dolphin cause.

The Greyhounds were led in the scoring column by Bethany Plasski’s 18 points. Plasski scored 10 points before the intermission on an efficient 4-for-6 shooting effort. Leslie Lupien joined Plasski and Floyd in double-figures with 13 points for the game.

Le Moyne takes to the road to visit three Northeast-10 Conference foes. The Dolphins take on American International at 5:30 p.m. Tuesday, Southern Connecticut at 5:30 Thursday and Bentley at 1:30 p.m. on Jan. 12. They return to Ted Grant Court to host Franklin Pierce on Jan. 16 at 5:30 p.m.
