WBB: DOLPHINS TAKE DOWN HAWKS, 69-48, IN REGULAR-SEASON HOME FINALE

Syracuse, N.Y. – Three players scored in double-figures for the Le Moyne College women’s basketball team in a 69-48 Northeast-10 Conference win over Saint Anselm at Ted Grant Court. As part of the Think Pink initiative, the Dolphins donned pink jerseys Saturday to commemorate breast cancer awareness.

Senior Vanessa Holden (Suffern, N.Y./Immaculate Heart (N.J.)), the reigning Northeast- 10 Conference player of the week, dropped in a game-high 17 points and pulled down 11 boards for her sixth double-double of the season. Junior Courtney Coryea (Mooers Forks, N.Y./Northeast Clinton) recorded 15 points, eight rebounds and a game-high five assists. Senior Katie Dunn (Whippany, N.J./Morris Catholic/Holy Family) was the third Dolphin in double figures, finishing with 14 points on a trio of three-pointers and a team-best three steals.

Senior Latoya Anderson (Rochester, N.Y./Greece Arcadia/Genesee C.C.) poured in seven points and pulled down four rebounds in her first career start. Second-year graduate student Jacquelin Precious (Fonthill, Ontario/Governor Simcoe/St. Peter's College) and sophomore Danielle Felice (Adams, N.Y./South Jefferson) each netted six points and collected a pair of steals for Le Moyne.

Le Moyne led wire-to-wire after jumping out to a 10-0 lead to start the game. Coryea scored four points in the paint and Precious and Dunn each knocked down a three-pointer to account for the ten-point spurt. Saint Anselm cut Le Moyne’s lead to six with 12:35 to play in the first half but the Hawks wouldn’t get any closer the rest of the way. The Dolphins took an 11-point lead at the 8:38 mark of the first half and kept a double-digit lead for the remainder of the game. The Dolphins led by 14 at the break thanks to a 20-4 scoring edge inside of the paint.

The Dolphins rode an eight-point run out of the halftime break to build a game-high 22-point lead with 16:07 to play. Saint Anselm shaved points off Le Moyne’s lead with a 9-1 run in the middle of the second half but the Dolphins received balanced scoring down the stretch to preserve the win.

Le Moyne’s defense forced 16 turnovers and held Saint Anselm to a 27 percent shooting clip (16-of-59) for the game. The Hawks were led by Megan Howard and Justine Lyons, who each put in 12 points. Howard pulled down a game-high16 boards, including eight on the offensive end.

Prior to Saturday’s game, Le Moyne honored a five-member class playing in its final regular-season home game: Anderson, Dunn, Holden, Precious and Kathleen Gladstone (Cleveland, Ohio/Walsh Jesuit).

The Dolphins (14-11, NE-10 11-9) hit the road for their final two regular season games. Le Moyne travels to Saint Michael’s for a Wednesday game at 5:30 p.m. The team rounds out the regular season schedule Feb. 24 at Southern Connecticut.
