PACE SNAPS LE MOYNE'S THREE-GAME WIN STREAK WITH 69-65 VICTORY

New York, N.Y. - Sophomore Brittany Huggins scored 23 points off the bench and freshman Brittany Shields tallied 17 second-half points to lead Pace University to a 69-65 victory over the Le Moyne College women's basketball team at the Civic Center Gymnasium on Saturday, Dec. 6. The loss, the first on the road this season for Le Moyne, snapped the Dolphins' three-game win streak.

Pace scored on its opening two possessions to take a 4-0 lead just 45 seconds into the game. The Dolphins responded with an 8-3 run of their own to take an 8-7 lead on a layup by senior forward Vanessa Holden (Suffern, N.Y./Immaculate Heart (N.J.)). Following a 10-10 tie, Pace opened up a five-point edge on a layup by Carol Johnson with 10:20 remaining in the half.

The Dolphins turned the five-point deficit into a four-point halftime advantage with a 15-6 streak to close out the final 9:06 of the stanza. Holden ignited the run with four consecutive free throws and a layup to give her team a 20-19 lead. Huggins responded with four points of her own to give the Setters their final lead of the half. Senior forward Latoya Anderson (Rochester, N.Y./Greece Arcadia/Genesee C.C.) tallied a conventional three-point play to even the score and junior forward Courtney Coryea (Mooers Forks, N.Y./Northeast Clinton) scored in the paint to give the Dolphins a 25-23 lead. Following a Pace layup, Coryea and senior guard Katie Dunn (Whippany, N.J./Morris Catholic/Holy Family) closed the half with layups for a 29-25 edge at the intermission.

Shields opened the second half with back-to-back layups for the Setters to even the score at 29 apiece. Coryea answered back with a pair of layups of her own to regain the lead for Le Moyne. After Pace knotted the game for the fifth time on a two foul shots by Huggins, the two squads went back-and-forth over the next 14 minutes with neither team opening up more than a three-point lead. Second-year graduate student Jacquelin Precious (Fonthill, Ontario/Governor Simcoe/St. Peter's College) drilled a three-pointer from the left wing to knot the score for the final time at 64-64 with 54 seconds remaining.

Shiesha McCollum converted two foul shots and Shields followed by going 3-of-4 at the foul line to secure the victory for the Setters.

Coryea led the Dolphins in scoring with 21 points and three assists before fouling out with 16 seconds remaining. Holden joined Coryea in double-figures with 12 points, while also posting a team-best seven rebounds. Huggins tallied 14 of her 23 points in the decisive second half, while Shields pulled down nine rebounds to go with her 17 points. McCollum finished with 11 points off the bench for the Setters.

Le Moyne (5-3, NE-10 3-3) returns to action after the College's finals week on Saturday, Dec. 13 against St. Michael's at 1:00 p.m.
