Syracuse, N.Y. - Amy Achesinski scored on a put-back with four seconds remaining to give Mercyhurst a 54-53 non-conference victory over the Le Moyne College women's basketball team on Monday night at Ted Grant Court. each scored nine points to lead Le Moyne. Holden pulled down a game-high nine rebounds and Coryea finished with seven boards and five blocks. Shields and junior Brittany Davis (Detroit, Mich./Oak Park/Labette College (Kan.)) each poured in seven points off the bench.

The Dolphins started slow and missed their first nine field goal attempts until senior Kathleen Gladstone (Cleveland, Ohio/Walsh Jesuit) buried a jumper at the 13:36 mark. After falling behind by eight points early, Le Moyne used a 19-7 scoring spurt to pull ahead by four with 2:21 left in the first half. The Dolphins and Lakers traded the lead in the final minute of the half before Coryea netted a conventional three-point play to give Le Moyne a 23-22 at the halftime break.

The Lakers used a 15-9 spurt over the opening 6:12 of the second half to open up a five-point lead, capped by a pair of foul shots by Achesinski. Davis converted two foul shots and Shields drilled a three-pointer to knot the score for the sixth time with 13:12 left. The two squads traded baskets over the next 5:42 to deliver a 45-45 tie.

Following a turnover on the Lakers, sophomore guard Danielle Felice (Adams, N.Y./South Jefferson) hit a driving layup and two possessions later Holden drilled a 18-footer from the top of the key to put her team ahead by four with 5:12 remaining. The Lakers answered back with six of the game's next eight points to knot the score at 51 apiece with 1:29 remaining. Prischak drilled a pair of three-pointers from the right wing around a 19-foot jumper by Holden to even the score.

Achesinski gave the Lakers a one point advantage with 29 seconds remaining by connecting on the second of two free throw attempts. Holden responded by drilling two foul shots of her own with just 19 seconds left to regain the lead for her team. Following her own missed jump shot, Achesinski grabbed the offensive rebound and registered a layup from the left block for the winning basket.

Le Moyne (5-5, NE-10 3-4) returns to action following a 13-day layoff against Texas Woman's University at the San Diego Surf N' Slam Hoop Classic at San Diego City College.
