WBB: CORYEA AND FELICE LEAD DOLPHINS PAST TEXAS WOMAN'S AT SURF N' SLAM CLASSIC

San Diego, Calif. - Junior forward Courtney Coryea (Mooers Forks, N.Y./Northeast Clinton) and sophomore guard Danielle Felice (Adams, N.Y./South Jefferson) each scored 16 points to lead the Le Moyne College women's basketball team to a 59-56 victory over Texas Woman's University on Sunday morning in the opening contest of the San Diego Surf N' Slam Classic at San Diego City College's Harry West Gym.

After falling behind 4-0 in the opening minute of the contest, the Dolphins responded with a 14-4 run over the next three minutes to take a 14-8 advantage. Coryea jumpstarted the streak with four points and senior forward Vanessa Holden (Suffern, N.Y./Immaculate Heart (N.J.)) tallied five consecutive points at the back-end of the run.

The Pioneers answered with an 11-4 spurt of their own to regain the lead. Casey Pool opened the span with a three-pointer and followed Renee Renz's three points with a jumper to pull her team within a basketball with 11:59 remaining in the half. After Renz connected on her second of six first-half free throws, Jessica Hanna made a jump shot to give Texas Woman's a 19-18 lead with just over ten minutes left in the stanza.

After trading points over the next minute, Le Moyne scored eight straight points to take a 30-23 lead. Felice started the streak by making two free throws, Coryea followed with a jumper and junior college transfers Denise Scott (Yonkers, N.Y./Lincoln/C.C.R.I.) and Brittany Davis (Detroit, Mich./Oak Park/Labette College (Kan.)) hit jumpers to close the streak. The Pioneers responded with their own 8-0 streak to take a 31-30 lead with 4:01 left in the half. The Dolphins closed the half with six of the final 10 points to take a 36-35 lead into halftime.

Le Moyne opened the second half with seven of the first nine points to open up a six point lead. The Pioneers registered a 7-2 run to close within one point at 45-44 with 14:18 remaining, but could not take the lead. Renz tallied five of the seven points in the span for the Pioneers. Felice hit a three-pointer a layup and Coryea hit a pair of jumpers around four points from TWU's Renz to regain the six-point edge with just under six minutes remaining in the contest.

Texas Woman's closed to within three points on three separate occasions in the final three minutes of the contest, but Le Moyne responded with baskets each time. Renz had an opportunity to tie the score in the final seconds, but Renz' three-pointer was off the mark.

Coryea finished 7-of-12 from the field for her 16 points, while grabbing five rebounds and blocking three shots. Felice made six of nine shots, including both of her three-point attempts, to finish in double-figures for the first time this season with her career-best 16 points. Holden, who finished with seven points, pulled down a team-high seven rebounds and recorded four steals. Renz posted game-highs of 23 points and 12 rebounds, while making 13-of-17 free throws. Jessica Bell joined Renz in double-digits with 11 points.

Le Moyne (6-5), which snapped a three-game losing streak with the victory, returns to action at the Surf N' Slam Classic on Monday against Molloy College at 1:00 p.m. EST/10:00 a.m. PST.
