WBB: MERRIMACK DROPS LE MOYNE, 68-41, IN NE-10 ACTION


North Andover, Mass. - Gennifer Roy scored a career-high 19 points to lead four players in double-figures as Merrimack defeated the Le Moyne College women's basketball team, 68-41, in Northeast-10 Conference action on Thursday evening at Volpe Gym.

Roy hit 6-of-13 shot from the field, including five three-pointers, for her career-high performance. Amanda Shannon tallied 18 points and a game-high five assists, while Casey Miller scored 13 points and Tiffany Colon added 10 points and 10 rebounds. Each of the three Warriors drained three shots from three-point range. Hannah DeGraffinreed posted a game-best 13 rebounds. Senior guard Kathleen Gladstone (Cleveland, Ohio/Walsh Jesuit) led Le Moyne with team-highs of nine points and four assists. Junior forward Courtney Coryea (Mooers Forks, N.Y./Northeast Clinton) pulled down 10 rebounds in the contest.

Merrimack opened the contest with the first four points and turned an early three-point lead into a 14-6 lead with 11:47 left in the half. Sophomore guard Ashley McFarlan (Kennesaw, Ga/St. John the Baptist) and senior guard Katie Dunn (Whippany, N.J./Morris Catholic/Holy Family) answered with consecutive three-point baskets to narrow Le Moyne's deficit to two points.

The Warriors responded with an 11-0 run over a span of 4:20 to open their largest lead of the half with 5:42 remaining. Roy opened the streak with eight consecutive points on a pair of three-pointers and a jumper and Shannon capped the run with a three-pointer. After junior forward Brittany Davis (Detroit, Mich./Oak Park/Labette College (Kan.)) scored four straight points for the Dolphins, Colon drilled a three and Shannon converted a jumper to close out the half.

Senior forward Latoya Anderson (Rochester, N.Y./Greece Arcadia/Genesee C.C.) opened the second half with four points to cut Le Moyne's deficit to 10 points. Merrimack was able to extend its lead back to 14 points, but the Dolphins went on a 10-3 run to cut the game to a seven point difference with 12:17 remaining in the contest. Gladstone bookended the run for the Dolphins with a jumper and a three-pointer.

After trading baskets over the next three and a half minutes, the Warriors registered nine straight points and 20 of the game's next 22 points to push out to a game-high 27-point lead with 3:32 remaining in the contest. DeGraffinreed opened the run for Merrimack with a conventional three-point play and Colon and Miller drilled back-to-back threes before Coryea made a layup to end the 9-0 run. Roy buried a pair of threes around a three by Shannon and Miller gave her team a 65-38 lead with 3:32 remaining in the game. Each squad tallied three points to close out the game.

Le Moyne (7-8, NE-10 4-6) returns to action at home on Saturday at 1:00 p.m. against #4-nationally ranked Stonehill.
