WBB: DOLPHINS HELD TO SEASON-LOW 39 POINTS IN LOSS AT NEW HAVEN


West Haven, Conn. - Nicole Pollard scored a game-high 19 points off the bench to lead New Haven to a 63-39 win over the Le Moyne College women's basketball team on Saturday at Charger Gymnasium. The Dolphins, whose 39 points are a season-low, had their three-game win streak snapped with the loss.

Senior forward Vanessa Holden (Suffern, N.Y./Immaculate Heart (N.J.)) recorded a double-double with 11 points and 10 rebounds. Junior forward Courtney Coryea (Mooers Forks, N.Y./Northeast Clinton), held scoreless for the first time in her career, grabbed a game-high 11 rebounds and blocked a career-high seven shots. Pollard, who scored 13 points in the first half, hit 4-of-8 shots from behind the three-point line and was a perfect 5-for-5 at the foul line. Freshman forward Nikki Carroll added 11 points for the Chargers.

After a basket by Alysia Saunders to open the second half, junior Siobhan Shields (Mason, N.H./St. Bernard's Central Catholic) and sophomore guard Danielle Felice (Adams, N.Y./South Jefferson) hit jumpers to pull the Dolphins to within five points. Following a New Haven timeout after Holden hit a jumper to get the Dolphins to within 38-33 with 9:36 remaining, the Chargers scored nine straight points to put the game away. Carroll led the streak with three points with Saunders hitting a jump-shot to cap the run. Senior forward Latoya Anderson (Rochester, N.Y./Greece Arcadia/Genesee C.C.) put an end to New Haven's run with a pair of foul shots.

Pollard and Felice traded baskets over the next minute before the Chargers rattled off 11 consecutive points to register a game-high 24-point lead. Pollard hit a three-pointer and Dominique Stellmacher made two three-pointers and a layup to account for New Haven's streak. Holden and Saunders traded baskets over the final 1:23 to deliver the final score.

The Chargers opened up a 6-0 lead in the opening 1:13 of the contest and never trailed. Lauren Hood drilled a three-pointer on New Haven's opening possession to start the scoring. The Dolphins answered back with five straight points on a layup by Shields and a three-pointer by senior Katie Dunn (Whippany, N.J./Morris Catholic/Holy Family) with 17:13 remaining.

New Haven jumped out to a 10-point lead with a 15-6 run over the next eight minutes. Pollard tallied six points in the span, while Carroll added four. After trading baskets over the next five minutes, the Dolphins closed the half with five of the contest's final seven points. Holden led the Dolphins in the stanza with seven points and five rebounds.

Le Moyne (11-10, NE-10 8-8) returns home for a pair of Northeast-10 Conference games next week. The Dolphins host Pace on Wednesday at 5:30 and Southern Connecticut State at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday.
