VECCHIO AND ELMER SCORE THREE GOALS EACH IN 11-7 VICTORY OVER CINCINNATI.
CINCINNATI, OH - The Le Moyne College women's lacrosse team defeated Cincinnati 11-7 on Saturday afternoon. Senior Whitney Vecchio and freshman Rebekah Elmer netted three goals each to lead the Dolphins. With the victory, Le Moyne evens their record at 1-1. Cincinnati drops to 0-2 in their season in program history.
Le Moyne scored the first two goals of the game to take an early lead as freshman Nerissa Barzee and Katlin Walker netted their first goals of their career. With the score tied at 4-4, Vecchio would close the half with two straight goals to give the Dolphins a 6-4 advantage into the intermission.
Elmer would open the second half with two consecutive goals of her own to extend the Dolphin lead to 8-4. Cincinnati would strike back scoring three of the next four goals to pull within two at 7-9. Elmer would score her last goal unassisted to push the Dolphin advantage back to three at 10-7. Lisa McCarthy would add an insurance goal from Beth Serotnik in the final minutes to round out the scoring..
Alex Dwyer would earn the win in goal for the Dolphins. Making her first career start, Dwyer recorded 11 saves in the first half. Molly Yaman added two goals for the Dolphin and McCarthy led all scorers with four points (one goal, three assists).
Cincinnati was led by Lindsey Marshall as she netted three goals on the day.
Le Moye returns to action on Saturay, March 1st as they travel to take on Oregon.
