FAIRFIELD NIPS LE MOYNE 17-13 TO SNAP DOLPHINS EIGHT GAME
WINNING STREAK
FAIRFIELD, CT – The Le Moyne College women’s lacrosse
team dropped their first game in over a month falling to Fairfield
17-13 on Friday night. The loss marks the first defeat to the hands
a member of the MAAC since 2005. The Dolphins fall to 11-5 on the
season despite three goals and one assist from junior Lisa
McCarthy. Fairfield was led by Kristen Coleman’s five goals
and one assist.
McCarthy got the Dolphins on the board just over one minute into
the game on an unassisted goal for the 1-0 lead. Two Fairfield
goals by Kristen Coleman gave the Stags a slim one-goal lead at
2-1. The Dolphins and Stags traded goals throughout the first half.
With Le Moyne holding a two-goal advantage late in the first half,
goals by Katie von Hoffmann and Kylee Martin pulled the Stags even
with Le Moyne at 8-8 heading into the intermission.
Following a high-scoring first half, both offenses struggled to
find the back of the cage to begin the second half. Le
Moyne’s Molly Yaman opened the second half with her second
goal of the game, giving the Dolphins a 9-8 advantage. The Stags
would net three straight to take an 11-9 advantage with over 15
minutes to play after goals from Erin Rigby, Kim Fuchs and Kristen
Coleman.
Le Moyne rallied over the next two minutes as Whitney Vecchio and
Kylie Rosette notched goals to pull the Dolphins even with the
Stags at 11-11 with 12:59 remaining.
Lisa McCarthy’s second goal of the game from Vecchio gave
the Dolphins a one goal lead at 12-11 with just over 10 minutes in
regulation. The lead was short lived as Fairfield with goals from
Coleman and Martin to grab a 13-12 advantage over the Dolphins.
McCarthy’s final goal of the night evened the score at 13-13
with 7:59 to play. The Stags put together four straight goals over
the final 6:52 of the game to secure the 17-13 victory.
For Le Moyne, Rebekah Elmer, Whitney Vecchio and Molly Yaman each
netted two goals. Samantha Falcone recorded 14 saves on the night
for the Dolphins.
Le Moyne wraps up their regular season on Sunday, April 20th as
they travel to take on Marist.
