WLAX: LE MOYNE OPENS SEASON WITH 21-4 SETBACK
AGAINST #2 SYRACUSE
Syracuse, N.Y. - Junior All-American Halley Quillinan
scored four goals and registered an assist to lead #2-nationally
ranked Syracuse to a 21-4 victory over the Le Moyne College women's
lacrosse team on Sunday afternoon at the Carrier Dome in the season
opener for each team. Sophomore Mia Valletta (Niskayuna,
N.Y./Niskayuna) tallied a pair of goals to lead the
Dolphins.
Junior Christina Dove got the Orange on the scoreboard 2:24 into
the contest with an unassisted goal. Quillinan followed just
over one minute later with her first tally of the season, off an
assist from Dove. Senior All-American Katie Rowan and classmate
Megan Mosenson scored one minute apart and Dove followed two
minutes later to give the Orange a 5-0 with 22:22 remaining in the
opening half.
Sophomore Michelle Phillips (Johnson City, N.Y./Maine
Endwell) got the Dolphins on the
scoreboard at the 16:08 mark with an unassisted tally. Just 10
seconds later, Awehiyo Thomas scored an unassisted goal and
Quillinan followed 1:30 later with her second goal off a feed from
Dove. Sophomore Rebekah Elmer (Syracuse, N.Y./West
Genesee) cut into Le Moyne's deficit with a free position
goal at the 8:54 mark of the half. The Orange closed the half with
four goals, including a pair by Quillinan, over the final 6:41 to
take an 11-2 halftime lead.
Valletta registered her two goals around scores by Thomas and
Rowan in the opening 11:14 of the second half. The Orange scored
eight times over the final 17:48 to seal the outcome. Rowan and
Elise Terracciano each netted two goals in the streak to lead the
Orange.
Le Moyne (0-1) opens its home schedule on Friday afternoon against
Niagara at 3:00 p.m.
