WLAX: STONY BROOK EDGES LE MOYNE 10-9
STONY BROOK, NY – Stony Brook’s Kim Hallion and Kaitlin
Leggio each scored three goals in leading the Seawolves over Le
Moyne 10-9 on Saturday. The Dolphins were led by Rebekah Elmer
(Syracuse, NY / West Genesee) and Michelle Phillips (Johnson City,
N.Y. / Maine Endwell) with three point each. Le Moyne falls to 0-2
on the season while Stony Brook picks up their first victory of the
season to improve to 1-3.
Le Moyne registered the day’s first goal as Elmer connected
with Katlin Walker (Penn Yan, NY / Penn Yan) to give the Dolphins a
1-0 lead 20 seconds into the game. After trading goals most of the
first half, Phillips scored an unassisted goal with less than 30
seconds remaining in the first half to pull the Dolphins within one
6-5 heading into the intermission.
The Seawolves opened the second period scoring three of the
game’s next four goals to take a 9-6 lead with 14:03
remaining in the game. The Dolphins rallied as Elmer scored two
straight goals cutting the Stony Brook lead to 9-8 with less than
10 minutes remaining. Leggio scored the eventual game winner on a
free position shot to push the Seawolves lead to 10-8. A late goal
by Nerissa Barzee (Baldwinsville, NY / Baldwinsville) trimmed the
lead to 10-9 before the final horn.
In goal, freshman Kelly Fucillo (Camillus, NY / West Genesee)
scored seven saves on the day.
The Dolphins look to bounce back this Sunday as they
travel to face Manhattan University at noon in search of the
season’s first victory.
