DOLPHINS PICK UP FIRST WIN OF THE SEASON
Syracuse, N.Y. - Senior McKenzie Gray (Baldwinsville,
N.Y./Baldwinsville) led the charge with two goals and
seven assists for a total of nine points as the Le Moyne Dolphins
registered their first win of the season over Detroit Mercy, 20-7,
on Thursday in women's lacrosse action at Henninger High
School.
Detriot scored the first goal just over three minutes into the game
and then was held scoreless for the next 20 minutes. During that
spurt, the Dolphins rattled off eight unanswered goals. Seven
different players found the back of the net with Michelle
Phillips (Johnson City, N.Y./Maine Endwell) scoring twice.
The two teams traded the next four goals to end the half for a
score of 10-3 in favor of the Dolphins. Le Moyne's two goals came
from Phillips, her third of the game and Mia Valletta
(Niskayuna, N.Y./Niskayuna), her second.
Nerissa Barzee (Baldwinsville, N.Y./Baldwinsville) started
off the scoring in the second
half on a free position just under three minutes in.
Rebekah Elmer (Syracuse, N.Y./West Genesee)
extended the lead before Detroit got on the board in the second
half to make it 12-4. Le Moyne went on their second big run of the
game scoring the six of the games next seven goals. Elmer had two
goals and one assist during the run while Gray had one goal and
three assists. Detroit Mercy was able to score twice more to cut
the lead to 18-7, but the Dolphins answered with two goals of their
own under a minute left to bring the final total to 20-7.
Freshman goalkeeper Kelly Fucillo (Camillus, N.Y./West
Genesee) recorded seven saves en route to her first career
collegiate win.
Le Moyne's second game of the home stand will be on Saturday, March
7th at 1:00 p.m. against Sacred Heart.
