WSOC: HARRISON'S LATE TALLY LEADS DOLPHINS PAST ST. MICHAEL'S 2-1
Syracuse, N.Y. - Junior Christina Harrison (Jamesville, N.Y./Jamesville-DeWitt) scored with just over three minutes remaining to lead the Le Moyne College women's soccer team to a come-from-behind 2-1 win over Saint Michael's on Saturday at the Thomas J. Niland Athletic Complex.
The Dolphins controlled advantage of the ball through the opening 45 minutes of action. Le Moyne held a 5-1 edge in shots, but the Purple Knights registered a 3-1 lead in corner kicks.
In the second half, the Purple Knights took a 1-0 lead on Laura Ostrout's fourth goal of the season. After Jenn Senecal took control of the ball down the left sideline of the field, she found Ostrout wide open at the top of the penalty box. After collecting the ball, Ostrout beat Le Moyne goalkeeper Amanda Abbatiello (Liverpool, N.Y./Liverpool).
Le Moyne rallied for a pair of goals over the final 13:07 of the contest. Junior Molly Yaman (Homer, N.Y./Homer) flicked a header off of a throw-in from the left side by classmate Alex Dwyer (Syracuse, N.Y./Westhill) behind her to knot the score at one at the 76:53 mark. Less than 10 minutes later, Harrison tallied her sixth goal and second game-winning goal of the season. Dwyer collected a loose ball around midfield and fed junior Megan O'Shea (East Syracuse, N.Y./East Syracuse-Minoa). With a diagonal pass, O'Shea found Harrison atop the penalty box, where she chipped the ball into the goal over charging goalkeeper Ashleigh Adams.
With 2:03 remaining in the match, Dwyer preserved Le Moyne's lead by stopping a shot by Senecal before it could cross the goal mouth.
The Dolphins outshot the Purple Knights 17-7, including 12-6 in the second half, while Saint Michael's held a 10-3 edge in corner kicks. Abbatiello recorded two saves in between the pipes, while Adams registered seven saves for the Purple Knights.
Le Moyne (5-3-1, NE-10 2-3-1) returns to action on Wednesday, Oct. 4 against Pace at 4:00 p.m.
