WSOC: O'SHEA AND HARRISON LEAD DOLPHINS TO SEASON-OPENING 6-0 WIN
OVER ST. THOMAS AQUINAS
Springfield, Mass. - Senior forwards Megan O'Shea (East
Syracuse, N.Y./East Syracuse-Minoa) and Christina
Harrison (Jamesville, N.Y./Jamesville-DeWitt) scored two
goals each to lead the Le Moyne College women's soccer team to a
6-0 over St. Thomas Aquinas on Thursday evening on the opening day
of the AIC Soccer Classic at John Homer Miller Field.
O'Shea opened the scoring just 42 seconds into the contest after
taking a pass from freshman forward Christie Morano
(Highland, N.Y./Highland). Just over 15 minutes later, the
duo connected again as O'Shea scored off a feed from Morano to give
the Dolphins a 2-0 lead.
Le Moyne, which scored its most goals in a game in over six years,
extended its lead to 4-0 as Harrison registered unassisted tallies
at the 19:11 mark and 22:14 mark. Just under three minutes later,
freshman midfielder Gabriele Ariola (Mexico,
N.Y./Mexico) added to the lead after taking a pass from
classmate Jennifer Fabian (Clay,
N.Y./Baldwinsville). The Dolphins tallied their final goal
of the contest at the 31:42 mark when junior forward
Caitlin O'Rourke (Orchard Park, N.Y./Mt. Mercy
Academy) deposited a feed from Fabian past St. Thomas
Aquinas goalkeeper Jeanette Gibson.
Sophomore goalkeeper Melissa Stevens (Camillus, N.Y./West
Genesee) made three saves in the first half of her first
career start between the pipes to pick up the victory. Freshman
goalkeeper Kelsey McGee (Kings Park, N.Y./Kings
Park) recorded four saves in the second half to preserve
the shutout. Gibson stopped eight shots in just under 66 minutes of
action before giving way to Julia Karl.
The Dolphins, under the lead of first-year head coach Tracey
Leipold, return to action at the AIC Soccer Classic on Friday at
12:00 p.m. against Felician College.
