WSOC: MORANO NETS SECOND CONSECUTIVE HAT TRICK AS DOLPHINS RALLY
FOR 4-4 TIE WITH SOUTHERN NEW HAMPSHIRE
Syracuse, N.Y. - Freshman forward Christie Morano
(Highland, N.Y./Highland) scored three goals for the
second consecutive game to lead the Le Moyne College women's soccer
team to a 4-4 tie against Southern New Hampshire University in a
Northeast-10 Conference match-up on Wednesday afternoon at the
Thomas J. Niland Athletic Complex.
Morano, the reigning Northeast-10 freshman of the week, gave the
Dolphins an early 1-0 lead at the 6:35 mark off an assist from
senior forward Megan O'Shea (East Syracuse, N.Y./East
Syracuse-Minoa). After taking a pass down the center of
the field from O'Shea, Morano outraced a Penman defender and shot
low past the goalkeeper.
The Penman evened the scored just over 19 minutes later as Ariel
Teixeira tallied her first goal of the game from two yard out off a
free kick by Danielle Courtemanche. SNHU took its first lead of the
contest in the 42nd minute as Kaleigh Roberge collected a crossing
feed from Teixeira three yards in front of the goal and scored.
Eight and one-half minutes into the second half, Morano registered
her fifth goal of the season by scoring from the top of the goal
box following a free kick by senior back Courtney Paddock
(Baldwinsville, N.Y./C.W. Baker).
Southern New Hampshire regained the lead 65 seconds later as Emily
Donahue headed in a crossing pass from Teixeira from five yards
out. The Penman extended their lead to 4-2 The Penman extended
their lead to 4-2 on an assisted goal by Teixeira from the left
side of the top of the penalty box.
Morano pulled the Dolphins within one goal 3:17 later as she
collected a pass from the right side by senior midfielder
Molly Yaman (Homer, N.Y./Homer) and scored from 10
yards out.
With only 1:16 remaining in the second half, the Dolphins were
awarded a direct free kick from just outside the penalty box on the
right side following an SNHU foul. Paddock bent the ball around the
Penman defense and into the goal to knot the score at four
apiece.
Sophomore goalkeeper Melissa Stevens (Camillus, N.Y./West
Genesee), the Northeast-10 Conference co-goalkeeper of the
week, registered four saves in goal for the Dolphins, while her
counterpart Stef Young recorded four saves for the Penman. Southern
New Hampshire out-shot Le Moyne, 18-16, in the match, while Le
Moyne held an 11-1 advantage in corner kicks.
Le Moyne (2-0-1, NE-10 0-0-1) returns to action on Sunday, Sept. 6
at No. 9 nationally-ranked Franklin Pierce at 12:00 p.m.
