WSOC: DOLPHINS NOTCH SEASON’S FIRST NE-10 CONFERENCE WIN,
3-1, AGAINST PACE
Briarcliff, N.Y. – Junior midfielder Melissa Cathcart
(Syracuse, N.Y./Faith Heritage) netted the first goal of
her career and the Le Moyne College women’s soccer team
earned its first Northeast-10 Conference win of the season, 3-1,
against Pace University on Tuesday afternoon.
Cathcart, who started for the first time this season and the fifth
time in her career, scored in the game’s seventh minute off a
deflected corner kick to give the Dolphins a 1-0 lead. Freshman
midfielder Gabriele Ariola (Mexico, N.Y./Mexico)
sent home an unassisted tally just over 10 minutes later, at the
game’s 16:32 mark, to double Le Moyne’s lead. The goal
was her second marker of the season.
The Setters pulled within a goal less than two minutes after the
halftime break, on freshman forward Meghan Tremblay’s second
goal of the season. Pace nearly evened the score in the
game’s 58th minute when sophomore forward Mariah Darrah fired
a shot at Le Moyne goalkeeper Kelsey McGee (Kings Park,
N.Y./Kings Park). The freshman stopped the shot, then
denied Pace’s Seanna Wright to preserve the one-goal
lead.
Junior forward Caitlin O’Rourke (Orchard Park,
N.Y./Mt. Mercy Academy) pushed Le Moyne’s lead back
to two and rounded out the game’s scoring with an unassisted
score at the game’s 70:50 mark. The goal was
O’Rourke’s second of the campaign and marked the fourth
time this season that the Dolphins netted three goals in a
game.
McGee finished with seven saves in the first victory of her career.
For Pace, freshman goalkeeper Courtany Hagen stopped nine
shots.
The Dolphins out-shot the Setters, 20-10, in the match and held a
5-0 advantage in corner kicks.
Le Moyne (3-1-1, NE-10 1-1-1) returns to action Saturday when it
hosts Millersville in a non-conference game slated for noon. The
action will be streamed live on lemoynedolphins.tv
