WSOC: DOLPHINS TIE AMERICAN INTERNATIONAL, 1-1, BEHIND GOAL FROM
HARRISON
Syracuse, N.Y. - Senior forward Christina Harrison
(Jamesville, N.Y./Jamesville-DeWitt) scored just over four
minutes into the contest to lead the Le Moyne College women's
soccer team to a 1-1 tie with American International in
Northeast-10 Conference action on Wednesday afternoon at the Thomas
J. Niland Athletic Center.
Harrison, who registered her third goal of the season, redirected
a corner kick from the left side of the field by senior back
Courtney Paddock (Baldwinsville, N.Y./C.W. Baker)
into the goal at the 3:04 mark of the match. Over the final 42
minutes of the half, the two teams battled back and forth, with
neither being able to register a goal. The Yellow Jackets out-shot
the Dolphins 10-6 in the opening period, while Le Moyne held a 5-3
advantage in corner kicks.
In the second half, the two squads traded possessions over the
opening 35 minutes without being able to get on the scoreboard.
Cassie Ashwell headed a shot at the Le Moyne goal with 8:18
remaining, but freshman midfielder Jennifer Fabian (Clay,
N.Y./Baldwinsville) was able to head the ball away from
the goal mouth. Just over 20 seconds later, Ashwell collected the
ball in the middle of the field and scored off a bouncing shot from
25 yards out that eluded the grasp of Le Moyne goalkeeper
Melissa Stevens (Camillus, N.Y./West Genesee).
At the 2:28 mark of the first overtime period, freshman forward
Christie Morano (Highland, N.Y./Highland) blasted
a shot from 16 yards in front of the goal, but it hit off the
crossbar. Senior Megan O'Shea (East Syracuse, N.Y./East
Syracuse-Minoa) collected the carom, but her shot from 12
yards was turned away by AIC goalkeeper Kara Potts. Less than four
minutes later, Morano had another shot get past Potts, but the ball
hit off the goal post and into Potts' hands. Neither team was able
to muster an offensive attack over the remaining 13 minutes of
overtime, leading to the draw.
Stevens posted a career-high eight saves in the contest, while
Potts recorded seven for the Yellow Jackets. AIC held a 32-20
advantage in shots, including a 22-14 edge after the halftime
intermission.
Le Moyne (4-1-2, NE-10 1-1-2) travels to Manchester, N.H. on
Saturday for a 12:00 p.m. kickoff against Saint Anselm.
