WSOC: CHRISTIE MORANO NAMED NE-10 FRESHMAN OF THE WEEK FOR THIRD
TIME THIS SEASON
South Easton, Mass. - Le Moyne College freshman forward
Christie Morano (Highland, N.Y./Highland) was
named the Northeast-10 Conference women's soccer freshman of the
week, as announced by the conference office on Monday
afternoon.
Morano, named the freshman of the week for the third time in five
weeks this season, tallied four points on two goals in Le Moyne's
2-0 week. Morano tallied both goals in a 2-1 overtime win over
Bentley on Saturday. Morano opened the game's scoring in the 54th
minute after collecting a pass and putting the ball into the left
corner from six yards out. Just over two minutes into overtime,
Morano collected a pass from senior Christina Harrison
(Jamesville, N.Y./Jamesville-DeWitt) at the top of the
penalty box, sidestepped the Bentley goalkeeper and a drilled a
shot inside the left post from 12 yards out.
For the season, Morano has a team-best eight goals and two assists
for a team-high 18 points. Morano ranks fifth in the NE-10 in
points and tied for fourth in goals scored, tops among freshmen in
both categories. The eight goals are the most by a Dolphin freshman
in seven years and the fourth-highest total in the program's
history.
Le Moyne (6-2-2, NE-10 3-2-2), which is unbeaten at home in five
games this season (3-0-2), returns to action on Wednesday at
Assumption at 3:30 p.m.
