WSOC: LE MOYNE SURGES PAST NEW HAVEN, 3-2, IN OT NE-10 ACTION

West Haven, Conn. – Senior back Courtney Paddock (Baldwinsville, N.Y./Baldwinsville) bent in a corner kick early in the second overtime period and the Le Moyne College women’s soccer team dropped the University of New Haven, 3-2, in Northeast-10 Conference action Tuesday afternoon at Kayo Field. The Dolphins erased a two-goal deficit late in the second half with three goals over the game’s final 23 minutes.

Senior forward Christina Harrison (Jamesville, N.Y./Jamesville-DeWitt) scored twice in the final 10 minutes of regulation to send the game into overtime. Trailing 2-0 with 10:28 left in the second half, Le Moyne cut its deficit in half on Harrison’s eighth goal of the season.

The Dolphins evened the score with 1:04 to play in regulation, when Harrison sent in a header off a corner kick from Paddock. Paddock’s assist was her fifth of the campaign, tying her with Harrison for tops on the team. With a goal and an assist, the senior back has tallied a career-best nine points (2g, 5a) this season.

Harrison’s pair of goals tied her with freshman Christie Morano (Highland, N.Y./Highland) for the team lead in goals this season, with nine, and moved her into sole possession of third place on the program’s all-time points chart, with 83 (34g, 15a).

New Haven outshot Le Moyne, 3-1, in the first overtime period but the Dolphins rifled two shots early in double-overtime to take the win. After a shot from Morano was deflected out of bounds, Paddock set up the corner kick and bent in the game-winner. Le Moyne held an 8-4 advantage in corner kicks for the game, including 7-2 after halftime.

The Chargers controlled possession for the majority of the first half and managed 12 of the game’s first 14 shots. Ali Espanol opened the game’s scoring 30 minutes in with her second goal of the campaign. New Haven doubled its lead less than five minutes into the second half, on Alexa DellaRocco’s seventh goal of the season.

Sophomore goalkeeper Melissa Stevens (Camillus, N.Y./West Genesee) played the entire game between the pipes for the Dolphins and collected seven saves in her seventh win of the season. Kim Taylor stopped four shots in goal for the Chargers.

Le Moyne (8-3-2, NE-10 5-3-2) won its fourth Northeast-10 Conference game in its last five tries. The Dolphins travel to UMass Lowell Saturday for a 1 p.m. conference match.
