WOMEN’S GOLF CLOSES OUT FALL SEASON WITH SIXTH-PLACE FINISH AT SHARK INVITATIONAL

Lawrence, N.Y. – Junior Mia Avotins (Liverpool, N.Y./Liverpool) tied for eighth place to lead the Le Moyne College women's golf team to a sixth-place finish at the Shark Invitational hosted by LIU on Monday and Tuesday at the par-70, 6015-yard Rockaway Hunting Club.

The host Sharks won the team competition with a two-day total of 632 following rounds of 325 and a tournament-best 307. Bryant University, the day-one leader, placed second at 656 after scores of 321 and 335. Merrimack College rounded out the top three with a 665 off rounds of 329 and 336. The Dolphins were sixth at 706 following scores of 346 and 360. LIU's Hailey Holbdy claimed medalist honors with a score of 153 after rounds of 81 and 72.

Avotins registered a 162 to finish in a tie for eighth place as she earned her third top-10 finish of the Fall campaign. She opened with a 79 to land in a three-way tie for fifth place. She followed with an 83 on Tuesday to dip into the tie for eighth.

Freshman Gianna Cafarella (Scranton, Pa./Scranton Preparatory School) finished in a three-way tie for 18th with a 36-hole season-best 171. She opened with a collegiate-best 82 to land in a three-way tie for 13th place. She followed with an 89 in the second round to slip five spots.

Sophomore Riley Stuver (Webster, N.Y./Our Lady of Mercy) placed 28th with a total of 181. She turned in an 89 in the first round to finish in a tie for 24th place. She dipped four spots after a 92 on Tuesday.

Freshman Cambell Kennedy (Ballston Lake, N.Y./Shenendehowa) recorded back-to-back rounds of 96 to finish in 31st place with a 192. Sophomore Emily Barnes (Central Square, N.Y./Paul V. Moore) placed 33rd with a 203 following rounds of 102 and 101.

The Dolphins open their Spring season in March.
