ENRIQUEZ LAUDED IN BASEBALL AMERICA, FORMER LE MOYNE
PITCHER RECEIVES HIGH MARKS FOR FIRST PROFESSIONAL SEASON
In his 2005 draft report card for Baseball
America, writer Jim Callis calls
Andre Enriquez the top late-round pick for the
Nationals.
Describing his fastball as the best in the draft for the Nationals,
Callis writes "RHP Andre Enriquez (13) is on the Joe
Nathan [Minnesota Twins closer] career path. Like Nathan,
Enriquez spent most of his college career as an infielder at a New
York university. But area scouts Larry Izzo and Tony Arango liked
his arm more than anything, and Enriquez was throwing 92-95 mph as
a full-time pitcher as a pro."
Enriquez, a third baseman/relief pitcher at Le Moyne who is
finishing up his degree at the college, was 0-0 with a 0.87 ERA,
allowed 11 hits, struck out 10, walked two and allowed just two
runs (one earned) in seven games for Washington's Gulf Coast
affiliate.
