WOMEN'S BASKETBALL: LE MOYNE RUNS OUT TO 24-9

Syracuse) scored 15 points and
Vanessa Holden (Suffern, N.Y./Immaculate Heart) added 10 to lead Le
Moyne to a 50-37 win over Southern New Hampshire in a Northeast-10
Conference women's basketball game at SNHU Fieldhouse. The
Dolphins (9-10, 6-9 Northeast-10) pick up their first Northeast-10
Conference road win of the season and snap a four-game losing skid,
while Southern New Hampshire drops to 5-15 overall and 3-11 in
league play.
Wagoner scored 12 of her game-high 15 points in the second half.
She made four-of-eight shots from the field and hit six-of-10 free
throws. Holden grabbed a team-high eight rebounds to go along with
her 10 points. Freshman Kathleen Gladstone
(Cleveland,
Ohio/Walsh Jesuit) and junior
Lindsay Ellis (Fairport, N.Y./Fairport) scored
seven points each to pace the Dolphins. Le Moyne made just 14-of-45
shots from the field (31%), but converted 20-of-29 free throws.
Southern New Hampshire outrebounded its hosts 53-35, but started
the game 3-of-28 from the field and finished 13-of-57 (23%).
Sophomore Alex Giannopoulou
(Thessaloniki,
Greece) scored nine points and
pulled down 10 rebounds to lead Southern New Hampshire.
Le Moyne scored the game's first basket nearly three minutes
into the contest and never trailed. The Dolphins held a 13-5 lead
midway through the half when the visitors scored five unanswered
points and opened up their largest lead of the half, 18-5,
following a layup by Holden with 6:10 left before
intermission. Le Moyne took a 24-9 lead into the break.
Le Moyne took their largest lead of the game, 27-11, following a
bucket by Ellis just over a minute into the second
half, and the Dolphins maintained a double-digit lead until the
midway point of the second half. Six unanswered points by SNHU cut
the Le Moyne lead to six points, 35-29, with 7:19 left, but the
Dolphins answered with a bucket by Holden and later took a 40-30
lead following two free throws by Wagoner with 3:26 left. SNHU cut
the lead to seven points twice in the final 3:16, but the Dolphins
secured the win by hitting 8-of-10 free throws down the stretch.
Le Moyne travels to Mansfield for a non-conference game on
Sunday at 3 p.m.
