SMITHFIELD, R.I. - Sophomores Emma Murphy (East Syracuse, N.Y./East Syracuse-Minoa) and Sarah Reed (DeWitt, N.Y./Jamesville-DeWitt) provided the pop as seventh-seeded Le Moyne knocked off No. 2 seed Adelphi 3-1 in the NCAA Division II Northeast Softball regional at Bryant University. The Dolphins (30-19) advance to meet sixth-seeded Queens on Friday at 3 p.m.
Murphy belted two home runs and Reed connected for another as Le Moyne won its 30th game for the sixth consecutive season. Murphy put the Dolphins up 1-0 with a solo home run to left in the top of the fourth.
After Adelphi (31-17) tied the contest at one in the fifth, Reed and Murphy each homered in the sixth. Reed (15-9), who struck out five and allowed just four hits on the mound, blasted her fourth home run of the season with one out. Murphy rocketed her team-high ninth round-tripper with two outs in the inning.
Le Moyne, the defending regional champion and the winner of this tournament in three of the last four seasons, has won 30 or more games in each of the last six seasons.
Queens took advantage of four Bryant errors to upend the third-seeded hosts 4-3 earlier in the day. No. 3 seed UMass Lowell edged fourth-seeded Caldwell 3-2 and top-seeded C.W. Post sent No. 8 Southern N.H. into the elimination round with a 3-2 win in the final game of the day.
