BASEBALL CLINCHES THIRD REGULAR SEASON CROWN IN FOUR SEASONS WITH 6-4 WIN OVER RIDER, DOLPHINS RUN LEAGUE STREAK TO 12 STRAIGHT

SYRACUSE, N.Y. - Ryan Woods (Jacksonville, Fla./Englewood) pitched two innings of scoreless relief to lead Le Moyne to a 6-4 win over Rider in a MAAC baseball game at Alliance Bank Stadium. With the win, the Dolphins (34-12, 19-5 MAAC) clinch their third league regular championship in four seasons and run their conference winning streak to 12 consecutive games.

Le Moyne rallied from a 4-1 sixth-inning deficit to collect the win at the home of the Triple-A Syracuse SkyChiefs. In the sixth, sophomore Andy Parrino (Brockport, N.Y./Brockport) drew a leadoff walk. Senior shortstop Michael Affronti (Dix Hills, N.Y./Commack) cut the deficit to 4-3 with his 11th home run of the season. Junior centerfielder Ben Gaal (Manlius, N.Y./Christian Brothers Academy) singled and scored on a Brian Hansen (Endicott, N.Y./Chenango Valley) single to tie the contest at four.

Sophomore leftfielder Robby Perez (Miami, Fla./Belen Jesuit) led off the seventh inning with a triple that rolled to the wall in left center. He scored the go-ahead run on a wild pitch.

With the Dolphins clinging to a 5-4 lead the bases loaded and none out in the top of the eighth inning, Le Moyne head coach Steve Owens summoned Woods from the bullpen for the program-record 26th time of the season. James Hayes grounded back to Woods, who tossed home for the first out of the inning. To get out of the jam, Scott Knazek grounded into a 6-4-3 double play. It marked the third consecutive inning that the Le Moyne defense ended the inning with a double play ball.

Sophomore designated hitter Corey O'Neill (Pittsford, N.Y./McQuaid Jesuit) singled and scored on Jamie Rose's (Hornell, N.Y./Hornell) sacrifice fly to add an insurance run in the eighth inning.

Woods yielded a one-out single to Jeff Reynolds, but no runs in the ninth for his team-high ninth save of the season. Starter Bobby Blevins (Briarcliff, N.Y./Briarcliff) allowed four runs on nine hits in the first six innings. Freshman Eric Beaulac (Troy, N.Y./Troy) was credited with his third win of the season.

Affronti, Parrino, Gaal and Hansen had two hits each for Le Moyne. The Dolphins outhit their guests 13-10. Tom Letizia, Hayes and Knazek had two hits each for the Broncs (25-27, 17-8 MAAC). Hayes staked Rider to a 1-0 lead with a home run in the top of the second inning.

The scheduled second game of the doubleheader was rained out. Le Moyne and Rider will play a doubleheader on Friday (7 inn./9 inn.), starting with a seven-inning game at noon.

As the league regular season champion, Le Moyne will be the top seed for next week's MAAC Baseball Championship. The Dolphins have won the combined MAAC regular season championship three times (2003, 2004, 2006) and topped the MAAC North five times (1990, 1991, 1992, 1993, 1998).
