WASHINGTON, D.C. - Jackie Lane scored six goals and assisted on another to lead American past Le Moyne 15-12 in a non-conference women's lacrosse match at the William I Jacobs Recreational Complex. Meghan Burgoon (Camillus, N.Y./West Genesee) scored five goals to pace Le Moyne (3-3).
American carried a 7-4 lead into the intermission, but Le Moyne rallied to tie the score at eight with four of the first five goals in the second half. Burgoon and Kylie Rosette (Watertown, N.Y./General Brown) cut Le Moyne's deficit in half with goals in the first eight minutes of the second session. After American pushed its lead back to two goals, Amanda Keegan (Marcellus, N.Y./Marcellus) and Leah Mazella (Syracuse, N.Y./Henninger) netted back-to-back goals to make it 8-8 with just under 17 minutes remaining.Â
American's Caithlin Gorman and Le Moyne's Lisa McCarthy (Syracuse, N.Y./West Genesee) traded goals to make it 9-9 with 16:20 remaining. Gorman scored two goals and Lane netted three as American answered Le Moyne's run with six consecutive goals to take an insurmountable 15-9 lead on Lane's goal with 3:31 remaining.
Burgoon netted three of her team-high five goals over the final 2:39, including one with four seconds remaining to make the final score 15-12. Keegan and Rosette scored two goals each and Emily Donnells (Penn Yan, N.Y./Penn Yan) added a pair of assists. Goalkeeper Samantha Falcone (Syracuse, N.Y./West Genesee) made 17 saves.Â
American (4-4) has won four consecutive games, while the Dolphins have dropped their last two. Le Moyne travels to Albany for a non-conference game on Wednesday at 7 p.m.
