BROOKVILLE, N.Y. - Adelphi University defeated Le Moyne College 9-3 in the first elimination game of the 2007 NCAA Division II Northeast Regional. The loss ends the Dolphins season at 32-17. Adelphi advances in the loser's bracket and improves to 39-12 on the season.
The Panthers got on the board first with two runs in the bottom of the second inning. Samantha Johnston blooped a two-run single down the left field line to give Adelphi a 2-0 lead. The Dolphins answered right back with a run in the top of the third to cut the lead in half. After Kortney Meadows (Orchard Park, N.Y./Orchard Park) walked and moved to third on a single and stolen base, Bailey Phillips (Rochester, N.Y./Greece Arcadia) drove her in with a sacrifice fly down the right field line.
The Panthers then followed by scoring three more runs in the bottom of the third inning. Adelphi scored their first run of the inning on a successful squeeze bunt by Jessica Vogt. Three batters later, the Panthers scored their fourth run of the game on a single up the middle. The following batter singled back to the pitcher to plate the fifth run. The Dolphins responded once again by plating two runs in the top of the fourth. Meadows roped a double to the fence in right center to drive in Kristen DesLauriers (Liverpool, N.Y./Liverpool) and Jennifer Farrelly (Latham, N.Y./Shaker).
Adelphi closed out the scoring for the game by crossing the plate four times in the bottom of the fifth inning. The Panthers scored the first two runs on a single to left field and scored the last two runs on a two-out three-base error.
Caylinn Christophersen (Norwich, N.Y./Norwich) took the loss for the Dolphins going three and two-thirds innings to finish the season with an 11-4 record. Farrelly pitched the final two and one-third innings for Le Moyne.
Christine Robinson picked up her 10th win of the season for the Panthers by scattering five hits over four innings. Sheila Feldman pitched the final three innings to earn her second save.
The Dolphins' 32 wins mark the seventh consecutive season with at least 32 wins.
