DURHAM, N.C. - The Le Moyne College women's lacrosse team wrapped up their season on Sunday as they fell to the #2 seeded Duke Blue Devils in the first round of the NCAA Tournament 23-8. The loss drops the Dolphins to 16-5 on the record setting campaign. The 16 wins in 2007 sets a new program record for wins in a season.
Duke jumped out to a quick 4-0 lead on the Dolphins in the first five minutes of the game. Le Moyne rallied to score five of the next seven goals to pull within 6-5. With nine minutes remaining in the first half, the Blue Devils scored five unanswered goals and took a 13-6 lead into halftime.
Le Moyne notched the first goal in the second half on a free position shot from Lauren Byrne Syracuse, N.Y. /Bishop Luden). Duke would run past the Dolphins in the second half outscoring Le Moyne 10-2 in the second half to secure the victory. The Blue Devils were led by Kristen Waagbo and Caroline Cryer who each scored four goals.
The Dolphins were led by Amanda Keegan (Marcellus, NY / Marcellus) who tallied four goals. Keegan, who played her final game in a Le Moyne uniform, will leave as the program leader in points, goals and assists.
Duke will move on to face John's Hopkins in the second round of the NCAA Tournament. Le Moyne finishes their season with a record of 16-5.
