SYRACUSE, NY – The Le Moyne College women's lacrosse team improved to 11-4 on the season by defeating Iona (6-9) 8-4 on Sunday. The win was the eighth straight win for the Dolphins. Whitney Vecchio and Michelle Lissner led Le Moyne with three goals and one assist each as the Dolphins celebrated Senior Day.
Freshman Nerissa Barzee got the Dolphins on the board with her only goal on the day from Whitney Vecchio. Senior Kylie Rosette gave Le Moyne a 2-0 lead on a feed from Jennifer Lewis. Iona scored two straight goals to tie the game at 2-2 with 13:59 remaining in the first period. The Dolphins closed the first half on a 4-1 run, highlighted by Vecchio's goal from Stephanie Donegan with :01 to play.
A low scoring second period saw the Gaels get on the scoreboard on Jaclyn O'Leary's second goal of the game to pull within two goals at 6-4. The Dolphins added two Michelle Lissner goals and held Iona scoreless over the final 22 minutes to secure the 8-4 victory.
Samantha Falcone earned the save in goal recording 12 saves, many at point-blank range, on 21 Iona shots.
Today's win marks the 11th win of the season and ranks fourth all-time for wins in a season.
Le Moyne hits the road for their two final games of the season as they take on Fairfield on Friday, April 18th and Marist on Sunday, April 20th.
